SUNDAY SCHOOL (download 2006-2007 registration form in .pdf)

“Since my youth, O God, you have taught me,
and to this day I declare your marvelous deeds.” Psalms 71:17

SUNDAY SCHEDULE

Each Sunday during the second service, Good Shepherd offers a Sunday School program for children from Preschool (age 3 by September 30th and potty-trained) through 5th grade. Parents/guardians can drop off children in the common area at 8:50 am, located in the basement of the church building. Since we have only a short amount of time to spend together, please do your best to have children arrive on time. Please be sure to take your children’s personal belongings (such as coats, gloves, toys) upstairs with you to the Sanctuary. After a brief music class, the children disperse to their individual classrooms for a Bible story and some fun activities, crafts and games. After approximately 45 minutes, the children are brought upstairs during the Peace to rejoin their families and participate in the Eucharist service (see Communion Policy attached). If children become restless, they can move out to the hall where there is a speaker
and some baskets filled with children’s activities.

CLASSROOM DETAILS

The curriculum we are currently using is entitled “Exploring Faith” and is published by Cokesbury, The United Methodist Publishing House. Each lesson is based on a Bible story taken from the New Revised Standard Version. They also use quotes from the Good News Translation in Today's English Version and the Contemporary English Version. The lesson plans include 1) Arrival Fun, 2) Bible Story, and 3) Live God’s Word. The third part of the lesson shows them how to “live out” the Bible message in their lives and is often some type of art project that the children
can take home. We provide a project table at the top of the stairs where
children can pick up their crafts after the service.

We have teams of volunteer teachers as well as youth helpers to assist with classes. This team approach is helpful as it gives volunteers a chance to take turns teaching and therefore attend a full Sunday service on their “off” weeks. Our teachers have been through the Safeguarding God’s Children training, and we strongly adhere to all diocesan rules regarding the safety of our children.

Our volunteers are central to the success of the Sunday School program.
More volunteers are always needed and welcome; contact Amy Bailey to
find out about current openings and learn more about our training policies. Parents/guardians are encouraged to volunteer at least one Sunday each
year and are always invited to drop in to visit classrooms.

Special note: On occasion, we will provide snacks for the children during Sunday School. Please be sure to let us know if your child has any food allergies or if you prefer that your child not partake of the snacks. Thank you!

SUMMER SUNDAY SCHOOL

During the summer months of June, July and August, Good Shepherd offers a Sunday School program for all ages in the common area of the lower level. It's a one-room schoolhouse approach with children from pre-K through 5th grade all learning together. The atmosphere is more laid-back and playful, as the summer should be! We occasionally meet outside if weather permits, and we have tons of fun! The class length is the same as the regular school year, and
the children rejoin their families during the Peace.

LOST AND FOUND

We have a Lost and Found box located in the supply closet downstairs. Please contact Amy Bailey if your child has misplaced something and we will do our best to find it!

CHILDREN’S BOOK & VIDEO LIBRARY

Please note that there is a children’s section in our library from
which you may checkout books. We have many children’s videos
available for checkout as well. We also hope to have a library cart this year to make the process easier. See your Sunday School teacher for details. If you have any books or videos that you would like to
donate to the church library, please use our contact us form.
