Advent is a time to prepare our hearts for the celebration of Jesus’ birth. This year, we are going to have an Advent liturgy downstairs in the Children’s area on December 10 during the regular Sunday school time. All children age three years and up are welcome as we explore the season of Advent and make a wooden Jesse Tree ornament to take home.
Children and youth ages 3+ are welcome to join us for Christmas Pageant rehearsals. This will be an exciting and memorable way for your children to experience the miracle of the first Christmas. Rehearsals will begin right after the 10:00 am service, at 11:30 am, and a light lunch will be served to the children. We will continue to hold rehearsals on Sundays, December 3, 10 and 17, in the Sanctuary. The Pageant will take place on Christmas Eve, Sunday, December 24, during the 4 pm service. All children are welcome to participate!
Please note that, due to Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve falling on a Sunday this year, there will be one service at 10:00 each of these Sundays. There will be Sunday school on December 31, starting at 10:00, but NO Sunday school on December 24. After this two-week change, Sunday school will resume our normal schedule of meeting every Sunday at 9:45.
The nursery will be open for the 4 pm service on Christmas Eve. Volunteers are needed so we can provide care for our youngest church family members and visitors. Please let Father Craig know if you are available to care for our littlest ones.
Sunday school begins at 9:45 every Sunday, except as noted above, when Sunday school will begin at 10 on December 31 and there will NOT be Sunday school on December 24. As a reminder, there is one Godly Play classroom, for children aged 3 years through 2nd grade. Grades 3, 4 and 5 are using Living the Good News, which is lectionary-based, meaning that they are experiencing the stories being preached about in church. We hope that this curriculum will promote family discussions.
The Godly Play classroom will have presentations that will include Advent 1 & 2 on December 3: The Shepherds Show the Way/Mary & Joseph Show the Way; Advent Liturgy downstairs on December 10 (see above); Advent 3 & 4 on December 17: The Shepherds Show the Way/The Magi Show the Way, and, on December 31, all the children and youth will gather together downstairs.
The themes for grades 3 through 5 will be…Watchfulness—Jesus warns His followers to be alert for the sudden coming of God’s Kingdom (December 3); Advent Liturgy downstairs on December 10 (see above); Witness of the Worthy One—John the Baptist describes his ministry as one of preparation for God’s Messiah (December 17) and on December 31 all the children and youth will gather together downstairs.
