Good Shepherd’s annual Catechesis program is for adults and youth seeking either confirmation, reception into the Episcopal Church, or the reaffirmation of baptismal vows, and it begins Monday, January 15 in the chapel/conference room. This program is designed for any adult or youth who has never been confirmed, adults who have been confirmed in another denomination, but wish to be formally received into the Episcopal Church, and adults who have been confirmed in the Episcopal Church, but who desire to refresh their knowledge of the history and teachings of the church (reaffirmation of baptismal vows).
This year’s program will take place over 12 weeks with a three-hour retreat in early March. The curriculum will be the popular Episcopal confirmation program titled, “Confirm Not Conform,” a fun and interactive series that invites participants to explore their faith, and learn about the history, doctrine and spirituality of the Episcopal Church. Candidates who successfully complete this program will be confirmed or received at a special service at St. John’s Cathedral in downtown Denver on Saturday, April 7 at 10 am.
There is no cost for the program and no “homework” will be assigned. Participants are asked to memorize and recite a short passage of scripture and make a short presentation on a world religion of their choice. Participants will select a mentor to support them on their confirmation journey. Mentors are not required to attend the program sessions, but are encouraged to attend if they can. The Saturday retreat will take place either on March 3 or March 10 and participants are expected to attend this three-hour morning session.
