Calling all “Angels”: Angel Sponsors and 20 Volunteers Needed for the 2018-2019 Season

Last Sunday I attended a transition meeting and one of the questions posed was, “What do you most value about Good Shepherd?” As our Music with a Mission coordinator, I was so proud to hear so many people talk about how much they value our concert series. Many people mentioned the obvious benefits of the great music and the money we have raised for our mission partners, but I was struck by how many talked about knowing someone who now attends our church as a result of the series. If we as a congregation truly value our Music with a Mission program, then now is the time to show our appreciation by getting involved with the 2018-2019 Season. We need your help now more than ever, as we have new expenses to incorporate this year, and some of our most valued volunteers will be stepping down at the start of the season. It truly takes a village to pull this series together.

Did you know that it takes 15 to 20 volunteers per concert to make things run smoothly?

We really need your help!

The first way to help is to become an “Angel Sponsor.” We have four levels of sponsorships ranging from $25 up to $500. We could not run the series without these important sponsorships because they fund the expenses for the series. These expenses include paying the artists that we book, the cost of the direct mail advertising for each concert, and for our licensing fees. By having these “Angel Sponsorships” cover our series expenses, we are then able to deliver all proceeds from our concerts directly to our mission partners.

A mailing will be going out the first part of June asking all parishioners to consider becoming a sponsor and/or volunteer for our 2018-2019 season. I am going to challenge each of you to prayerfully consider either becoming a sponsor for the first time, or if you have been supporting our series, to consider upping your sponsorship level. Our biggest expense comes from the direct mail flyer that we send out to approximately 2,000 homes around Good Shepherd prior to each concert. The printing and postage for this advertising costs us $4,000, and while this uses a large portion of our budget, we feel that it is the single most important vehicle in bringing people to our church for the concerts.

The second way you can help support our series is by volunteering to help with each concert. Many of you may think that the concert series runs very smoothly and professionally, but I can tell you that there are many times when we were scrambling for volunteers up to the very last minute. Our mission this year is to recruit 20 volunteers who can commit for all five concerts in the series. Here is what we need to run the 2018-2019 season:

Kitchen Manager – One person to commit to all five concerts. Will be responsible for the planning and purchasing of all food for each of the five receptions. This person will also help with the set-up and clean-up of the reception on the evening of the concerts.

Reception Set-Up Crew – Two people to commit to all five concerts. Will assist the Kitchen Manager in setting up for the concert receptions in the Parish Hall.

Reception Clean-Up Crew – Three people to commit to all five concerts. Will clean up the kitchen and Parish Hall after all five receptions.

Stage Crew – Four people to commit to all five concerts. Will assist Whit Hill in setting up the wooden stage prior to each concert, and then also taking the stage down and storing it after the concert. We need muscles for this job!

Parking Lot Crew – Two people to commit to all five concerts. Will assist with parking on the night of each concert between 6:30 and 7 pm. Will direct people across the street to Willow Way when the parking lot fills up.

Ushers – Three people to commit to all five concerts. Will hand out programs, greet and thank attendees and help people find seats when we get full. Position is from 6:30 to 7 pm on the evening of the concerts.

Is God calling you to help with any of these important positions? If so, then I encourage you to check the volunteer form which will be sent to you the first week of June. Simply check the position you are interested in, and I will get back with you about the details.

Thank you so much for your interest in our series! I too am very proud of what Good Shepherd has accomplished with this series, and I look forward to an exciting and fun season.
