Good Shepherd routinely supports outside organizations that serve the poor or needy. You may often hear of St. Francis Center, Covenant Cupboard, or St. Clare’s Ministries in conversation or in the weekly bulletin, but perhaps you haven’t visited or learned firsthand about their missions. Over the course of September, the church will provide opportunities for you, your children, and friends to get involved and learn more about these important organizations that serve our community. Additionally, you will hear firsthand about some of the ministries here at Good Shepherd and the hours of volunteer time needed to ensure the ministries (and church) run smoothly.

Ingathering of Healthy Snacks, Benefitting Covenant Cupboard
From September 1 – 14, the Good Shepherd congregation is invited to collect healthy, packaged snacks and other non-perishable food items to be donated to Covenant Cupboard. Healthy snacks may include: dried fruit, Nature Valley granola bars, protein bars (Cliff Bars, KIND Bars, etc.), pretzels, snack mix, fruit snacks (made with fruit juice), etc. Additional canned goods/non-perishable items will also be accepted. Most requested items are: canned protein (meats, nut butters), canned fruits or vegetables, soup and chili, past and rice, boxes of mac and cheese, cereal and oatmeal, breakfast and nutrition bars, and dry beans.
St. Clare’s Ministries Fundraiser – Giving Dignity
On Friday, September 14, from 5:00 – 8:00pm, St. Clare’s will conduct their fundraiser, Giving Dignity, at St. Peter and St. Mary Church in Denver (126 W. 2nd Ave. Denver 80223). The evening will feature a “Walk in Their Shoes” Food Tasting and special musical concert by “Never on Sunday.” The Good Shepherd congregation is invited to attend and learn about this important ministry. The evening is complimentary thanks to a generous donor. 100% of your donation will support their feeding and clothing ministries. Tour of Covenant Cupboard and Food Sorting
On Saturday, September 15, from 9:00 – 11:00am, the congregation is invited to meet at Covenant Cupboard (children are welcome!) to help sort the donated food collected during Good Shepherd’s ingathering earlier in September. Meet at Good Shepherd to Assemble Birthday Bags
Following our work offsite at Covenant Cupboard, volunteers will return to Good Shepherd to assemble 50 “Birthday Bags,” which will benefit children served by Covenant Cupboard. Birthday Bag assembly will take place on Saturday, September 15, from 11:15 – 12:30. Sign up now by clicking here.
Tour and Volunteer at St. Francis Center
On Saturday, September 22, from 8:30 – noon, the congregation is invited to volunteer at St. Francis Center in downtown Denver. You will join Karin Elsen, Good Shepherd Vestry member, and other Episcopalians who have made up the “Third Saturday Crew” for over a decade. Volunteers will assist guests select clothing, re-stocking the clothing room, and assisting guests with mail and storage. Sign up now by clicking here.
