The 2019 Men’s Retreat will be held on February 8-9, 2019. The title for this year’s retreat will be “Leading Men in the Episcopal Church into Future Men’s and Youth Ministry”. We are delighted to have Mr. Jeffrey Butcher, President of the Brotherhood of St. Andrew as our leader and speaker.
The Brotherhood of St. Andrew is the National Men’s organization in the Episcopal Church and the Anglican Church, and is also the sister organization to the Daughters of the King for women.
Mr. Butcher has been the President of the Brotherhood for the last three years and was recently elected to another three year term. He lives in Louisville, Kentucky where the Brotherhood has their National headquarters. Although Mr. Butcher has expanded the ministry of the Brotherhood into several new and exciting areas, the Brotherhood’s primary goals remain committed to prayer, study and service. Under Mr. Butcher’s leadership they have expanded their ministry in seven key areas. These include, discipleship of men and youth, youth work (primarily Scouting), restoration justice (prison ministry), work with Veterans, recovery (AA and SA), human trafficking, and racial reconciliation. I was fortunate to hear a summary of their work in each of these areas at their annual convention in Austin, Texas in July during this year’s Episcopal General Convention, and I came away excited about the future of the Brotherhood.
The Retreat will start with a 6 pm dinner on Friday, February 8th at Good Shepherd, and we will have a program after dinner at Good Shepherd going to 9 pm. After a good night sleep in our own beds, we will leave from the Church at 7:30 am on Saturday morning and travel up to the Pines at Genesee for breakfast and a day of music, food, fellowship, sharing’s by Mr. Butcher and small group discussions. We will close with a Eucharist service and try to leave the Pines at Genesee by 4 pm to beat the ski traffic back home.
The cost for the weekend retreat will be $60 to cover the cost of meals and the rental of the Pines at Genesee. We will be putting out a sign-up list December 1 and we will also have online sign-ups. Plan now to attend a wonderful weekend. We are inviting several of our surrounding Episcopal Church’s to participate with us and have the opportunity to listen, hear, and share with the National President of the Brotherhood of St. Andrew.
