The 2019 Men’s Retreat was held on February 8-9, 2019.  The title for this year’s retreat was “Leading Men in the Episcopal Church into Future Men’s and Youth Ministry”.  We were delighted to have Mr. Jeffrey Butcher, President of the Brotherhood of St. Andrew as our leader and speaker.

The Brotherhood of St. Andrew is the National Men’s organization within the Episcopal and Anglican Church and Mr. Butcher came from the national headquarters in Louisville, Kentucky to participate.  We had 30 men on the retreat representing five churches in the High Plains Region and a representative from the staff of the Office of the Bishop.

The retreat started with dinner and a program at Good Shepherd on Friday evening and on Saturday morning we traveled to The Pines at Genesee for an all-day program including food, music, sharing’s and small group discussions.

Mr. Butcher shared the history of the Brotherhood of St. Andrew on Friday evening.  He also shared some of the new areas the Brotherhood of St. Andrew is now involved in including: How to Disciple and Mentor Men, Youth work (Boy Scouts of America), Veteran Friendly Congregational Initiatives, Restorative Justice (Prison Ministry), Social Justice (Human Trafficking), Racial Reconciliation and Healing, and Addictions (Alcohol, Drugs, and Pornography).  On Saturday we focused on the core values of the Brotherhood, those being Prayer, Study, and Service.

Good Shepherd’s Men’s Group has used the Brotherhood of St. Andrew as a base platform/guide for our meetings, etc.  Likewise, our focus has been on Prayer, Study and Service.  With Mr. Butcher’s presentations, our Men’s Group will consider and discuss the possibility of becoming a Brotherhood Chapter in the future.
